How to Assemble the Coral Wandepoxy Epoxy System: Primer, Filler and Topcoat

The order for the Coral Wandepoxy epoxy system: surface prep, primer, filler for imperfections, then two to three coats of catalysed enamel.

Coral Wandepoxy is a catalysed, two-component epoxy system built from three bases, a primer, a filler and an enamel, each with its own catalyst, plus a common thinner. Assembling it means applying those parts in order: prepare the surface, seal with the primer, correct imperfections with the filler, and finish with the enamel.

Step 1: prepare the surface

Preparation follows standard ABNT NBR 13245. The surface must be firm, cohesive, clean and free of grease, oil or mould. Masonry, render and concrete must be cured for at least 30 days. Burnt cement floors are treated with a solution of water and muriatic acid in an 80:20 ratio by volume, then rinsed and left to dry. Internal wood must be dry, with less than 18% moisture.

Step 2: primer for sealing and adhesion

Apply one coat of Wandepoxy Fundo Epóxi (epoxy primer), catalysed at 3 parts base to 1 part catalyst by volume. It evens out and seals the surface, promotes adhesion and has anticorrosive action. The primer takes 1 to 2 coats, is touch dry in 3 hours and covers 43 to 54 m² per gallon per coat.

Step 3: filler for imperfections

If the surface has imperfections, correct them with Wandepoxy Massa Epóxi (epoxy filler), also catalysed 3:1. After the filler is sanded, apply another coat of primer and let it dry. The filler is touch dry in 1 hour and sands well.

Step 4: enamel as the finish

Apply 2 to 3 coats of Wandepoxy Epóxi Catalisável (catalysable epoxy enamel), catalysed 3:1 for ready-made colours and 4:1 for the tinting system. The enamel forms a glossy film (gloss at 20 degrees of at least 80 GU) that is smooth, has low dirt pickup and is easy to clean. On tiles it can go straight over the degreased surface or over a prior coat of primer for a better finish, as detailed in the guide on how to apply Coral Wandepoxy epoxy on bathroom and kitchen tiles.

Mixing rules that apply to every part

The catalyst is added slowly over the base, under constant agitation. After catalysing, wait an induction time of 15 to 20 minutes before applying or thinning. The mixed product has a pot life of 6 hours; after that it must be discarded. Thinning uses Diluente Wandepoxy, up to 10% for brush and up to 20% for roller or spray gun. Between enamel coats the interval is 12 to 48 hours, and after that period the surface is sanded before the next coat.

Cure and first cleaning

The enamel is touch dry in 2 hours, handling dry in 6 hours and fully dry in 24 hours, but full cure takes 7 days, during which the surface should not be exposed to stress. After that, clean with a soft sponge dampened with water and neutral detergent. Where this film holds up, and where it does not, is covered in the guide on moisture and chemical resistance of Coral Wandepoxy epoxy. The same system is specified for internal metal, described in Coral Wandepoxy epoxy paint for metal.
