Coral Wandepoxy Pot Life: Why Mixed Epoxy Lasts Six Hours and How Much to Prepare
Why mixed Coral Wandepoxy epoxy has a six-hour pot life: a two-component reaction, a 15 to 20 minute induction time, and preparing only what you can use.
Coral Wandepoxy mixed with its catalyst has a pot life of 6 hours at most. After that, the sheet says the product must be discarded. The reason is that Wandepoxy is a two-component system: once the base (Part A) and the catalyst (Part B) are combined, a chemical reaction begins, and that reaction does not reverse.
A two-component reaction that starts at mixing
Every Wandepoxy base, the enamel, the primer and the filler, is paired with its own catalyst. The catalyst is added slowly over the base, under constant agitation. From the moment the two are combined, the mix begins to cure, which is why only the usable quantity should be prepared at a time.
Induction time before applying
After catalysing, the sheet asks for an induction time of 15 to 20 minutes before applying or thinning. During this interval the mix is left to react; it is then homogenised again before use. The induction time is part of the working window, not separate from it.
The six-hour pot life
The prepared mix (A plus B) has a maximum pot life of 6 hours. This applies to the enamel, the primer and the filler. Past 6 hours the product is no longer usable and should be discarded rather than applied or stored.
Mixing ratios by product
The amount to prepare depends on the ratio each product uses, by volume:
- Enamel: 3:1 for ready-made colours and 4:1 for the tinting system.
- Primer: 3:1.
- Filler: 3:1.
The thinner, Diluente Wandepoxy, is added after the induction time: up to 10% for brush and up to 20% for roller or spray gun, and up to 5% for the filler.
How much to prepare at once
Because the mix is unusable after 6 hours, the practical rule from the sheet is to prepare only what can be applied within that window. Coverage figures help size each batch: the enamel covers up to 50 m² per gallon per coat in a ready-made colour, the primer 43 to 54 m² per gallon per coat.
