Coral Wandepoxy Epoxy Paint for Metal: Adhesion and Anticorrosive Action

How the Coral Wandepoxy two-component epoxy system is indicated for iron, steel, aluminium and galvanised metal, with an anticorrosive primer, mixing and prep.

Coral Wandepoxy is a catalysed, two-component epoxy coating system that lists iron and steel, aluminium and galvanised metal among its indicated surfaces. For internal metal parts and structures, the system combines a primer with anticorrosive action and a high-hardness epoxy enamel that resists moisture, chemical products, abrasion and alkalinity.

The system applied on metal

Wandepoxy Fundo Epóxi (epoxy primer) is a white two-component primer that evens out and seals the surface, promotes adhesion and has anticorrosive action. Over it goes Wandepoxy Epóxi Catalisável (catalysable epoxy enamel), the enamel that forms a glossy film (gloss at 20 degrees of at least 80 GU), smooth and easy to clean, with low dirt pickup. When there are imperfections to correct, Wandepoxy Massa Epóxi (epoxy filler) goes between the primer and the enamel.

Preparing the metal surface

Preparation follows standard ABNT NBR 13245. The surface must be firm, cohesive, clean and free of grease, oil or mould. The primer’s anticorrosive action works on a base prepared this way, so removing loose residue and degreasing the metal before application is part of the process. The same smooth, chemical-resistant film that protects metal is also specified for tiled rooms, covered in the guide on how to apply Coral Wandepoxy epoxy on bathroom and kitchen tiles.

Mixing, thinning and application

The primer is catalysed in a ratio of 3 parts base to 1 part catalyst, by volume. The enamel uses 3:1 for ready-made colours and 4:1 for the tinting system. After adding the catalyst slowly and under agitation, wait the induction time of 15 to 20 minutes before applying or thinning. Thinning is done with Diluente Wandepoxy (Wandepoxy thinner): up to 10% of the volume for brush, and up to 20% for roller or conventional spray gun.

The prepared mix has a pot life of 6 hours at most. The primer takes 1 to 2 coats and the enamel 2 to 3 coats, with an interval between coats of 12 to 48 hours (after that period, sand before continuing). The enamel is touch dry in 2 hours, handling dry in 6 hours and fully dry in 24 hours, with full cure at 7 days, a period during which the surface should not be exposed to stress. Which environments this resistance holds up in, and where it does not, is detailed in the guide on moisture and chemical resistance of Coral Wandepoxy epoxy.

Coverage, pack sizes and use limits

The enamel covers up to 50 m² per 2.7 L gallon in ready-made colours and up to 47 m² per 2.56 L gallon in the tinting system. The primer covers 43 to 54 m² per 2.7 L gallon. The system is indicated for internal use and is not indicated for swimming pools, water tanks and vitrified ceramic floors. Because it is two-component and solvent-based, it requires a ventilated environment and the use of gloves, safety goggles and a mask for organic vapours during handling. For the vertical surface of external walls and facades, the acrylic route is a different product, the Coral Proteção Sol & Chuva waterproof exterior paint.

Frequently asked questions

Which metals can Coral Wandepoxy be applied to?

The system lists iron and steel, aluminium and galvanised metal among its indicated surfaces, for internal parts and structures.

What gives the system its anticorrosive action?

The white two-component Wandepoxy Fundo Epóxi primer seals the surface, promotes adhesion and has anticorrosive action, working on a base that is firm, clean and degreased.

What is the mixing ratio on metal?

The primer is catalysed 3 parts base to 1 part catalyst by volume. The enamel uses 3:1 for ready-made colours and 4:1 for the tinting system, with an induction time of 15 to 20 minutes and a pot life of 6 hours at most.

Can it be used on swimming pools or water tanks?

No. The system is for internal use and is not indicated for swimming pools, water tanks or vitrified ceramic floors.
