Coral Sol & Chuva Waterproofing Primer: When to Use It Before Painting
Coral Sol & Chuva Fundo Impermeabilizante is a flexible sealer that prevents cracks and infiltration, used as a base before the waterproofing paint.
Coral Proteção Sol & Chuva Fundo Impermeabilizante (waterproofing primer) is a complement used to protect external and internal walls of houses, buildings and boundary walls. It is used before the waterproofing paint of the same line, as a base that forms a flexible, impermeable film and increases the yield and durability of the paint applied over it.
What the primer does
The film is flexible and follows the walls’ expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes, which is how it prevents cracks and infiltration from outside in. The sheet lists its characteristics as: prevents infiltration, prevents cracks, increases the yield and durability of the paint applied over it, and a flexible film. It is classified under ABNT NBR 11702 as 4.1.2.7 (flexible sealer) and under ABNT NBR 13321 as class F (acrylic waterproofer for walls and facades).
When to apply it before the paint
The primer was developed to receive the waterproofing paint of the same line, contributing to that paint’s yield and durability. On surfaces that need a sealed, uniform base before the finish, it is the layer that goes first. It is indicated for external and internal surfaces.
How it is applied
Dilution is 10%: 10 parts of primer to 1 part of potable water, mixed first with a plastic, metal or wood spatula. It is applied with a high-pile wool roller, brush or flat brush, in 2 to 3 coats (more may be needed depending on the surface and the colour). Drying is 1 hour to the touch, 4 hours between coats and 24 hours for final drying. It comes in 3.6 L and 18 L packs.
Conditions to respect
Avoid application on rainy days, at temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C, or with relative humidity above 85%.
The waterproofing paint that goes over this primer is described in Coral Proteção Sol & Chuva waterproof exterior paint. How the primer’s coverage changes with the surface is covered in Coral Sol & Chuva waterproofing primer coverage by surface, and the range of wall waterproofing options in types of wall and facade waterproofing.
