Climate Conditions to Apply Exterior Waterproofing: Temperature, Humidity and Rain
Coral Sol & Chuva waterproofing is applied away from rain, between 10°C and 40°C and below 85% relative humidity. Why the weather changes drying and the result.
Coral Proteção Sol & Chuva waterproofing, both the paint and the primer, is applied within a defined weather window. The technical sheet asks to avoid rainy days, temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C, and relative humidity above 85%. Drying time also varies with climate, season and region.
The three conditions to respect
- Rain: do not apply on rainy days. A rubberised, hydrorepellent film needs to form before it meets water.
- Temperature: keep application between 10°C and 40°C. Below or above that range falls outside the indicated conditions.
- Relative humidity: keep it below 85%. High air humidity slows the water-based film from releasing water and drying.
Why the weather changes the result
The waterproofing paint and the primer are water-based products. Their drying depends on water leaving the film, so cold, very humid air or rain interferes with that process. The sheet is explicit that the drying time can vary according to climate, season and region, which means the published intervals are references under suitable conditions, not guarantees in any weather.
The drying intervals under suitable conditions
For the waterproofing paint, drying is 30 minutes to the touch, 4 hours between coats and 24 hours for final drying, applied in 3 coats as a reference. For the primer, drying is 1 hour to the touch, 4 hours between coats and 24 hours final, in 2 to 3 coats. Planning the work so each coat dries inside the weather window is part of getting the film the sheet describes.
Where climate meets surface
Weather is one of the factors the sheet lists alongside surface preparation, dilution and application. A fresh render base, for example, has its own timing, covered in waterproofing new plaster without waiting for full cure. What the film resolves on a damp wall, and what still needs the cause fixed, is in acrylic waterproofing for exterior walls with moisture, and the finish paint itself in Coral Proteção Sol & Chuva waterproof exterior paint.
